Submissions

The Ideas In ALL blog is a forum to showcase the work being carried out in the Assisting Living and Learning (ALL) Institute by our members and as well collaborations with other universities, civil society, and stakeholders. We aim not only to present critical discussion on topical research issues, on current projects, but also deliver posts that reflect and analyse current global issues, that are relevant to the ALL mission. The Ideas In ALL blog aims also to be a platform for debate. It situates at the interface between academic scholarship and informative discourse geared to the general public.

We are interested in well-written and thought provoking and topical comments and analysis, and we welcome submissions and proposals of broadly three types:

  • Social Structures
  • Social Lives
  • Social Technologies

We have sections on Stories/Lived Experience

We also have Debates which can belong to multiple streams, we advise for the content to be relevant to the ALL Institute research interests as well as maintaining topical interest and academic rigour vital to the Ideas In ALL blog.

Informal Contact

We are also happy to receive more informal approaches regarding possible submissions and proposals. If you have an initial idea for a post, do let us know at all.institute@mu.ie

Notes on Style, Tone and Clarity

We do not wish to be overly repressive regarding the content and style of posts. However, it may be useful to consider the following when writing a post for the blog:

Avoid jargon and convoluted phrasing: Your blog should be understandable and appealing for the non-expert reader. If there is a phrase or wording that is vital to the post but is not widely known hyperlink an explanation.

Purpose and relevance: Does the blog post contain a clear introduction or paragraph clearly stating its purpose and relevance? For the blog’s audience it is useful to have a sense of why a given issue is important, and / or topical. The blog layout provides excerpts of the opening paragraph of each post, so it is useful to make the post’s purpose clear.

Co-authoring: Collaborating on a blog post both with ALL members and those outside the Institute e.g., civil society, are encouraged.

Various Media Content: As above, Original media content (e.g. video) is welcomed. Any material associated with the post should be in an accessible format.

Original Content: Content should be original to the blog site, but links to content on external sites (e.g. RTE Brainstorm) are acceptable.

Submitting your article to the blog does not constitute an agreement on behalf of the Ideas In ALL blog to publish your post. If your submission is accepted, the editors reserve the right to publish the blog post when and how they deem appropriate.

Editing: The editors may edit all blog posts for style, clarity, and punctuation. Editing is carried out in a collaborative spirit with the author (s).
