A blog by the ALL Institute: connecting research and real life

  • Maynooth ‘Elephant in the Room’ sculpture is both a symbol and a reminder that mental health challenges are a part of life, and seeking support is a sign of strength. Through this sculpture and the resources it represents, we aim to send a clear message to our community: you are not alone, and support is always here for you. The sculpture was painted by professional artist, Karolina Di Duca, based on artwork submissions received from MU staff and students around the themes of openness, compassion, inclusivity and support. A competition was then held to ‘name the elephant’ and the winning name was Hope. We believe that ‘Hope’ perfectly captures the optimism, compassion, and courage at the heart of this mental health awareness initiative. Hope will now travel across campus, serving as a powerful reminder that no challenge is too small to seek support for, and that help is always available.
